Program overview
The Simplified Ijazah Program is a 12-month advanced tajwid course designed for adults who wish to deepen their understanding of Quranic recitation. Combining both theoretical study and practical application, the program prepares students to master the principles of tajwid while qualifying them to earn an Ijazah in the recitation of Imam Hafs via Ash-Shatibiyyah, upon successful completion of all assessments.
Curriculum highlights
The etiquettes of seeking Quranic knowledge and the qualities that should be embodied by both students and teachers of the Qur'an.
A detailed study of every Arabic letter, including its articulation point (makhraj) and characteristics (sifat), through the sciences of articulation, phonetics, and speech production.
An in-depth study of the sifaat and advanced rules of tajwid, including the evidence and reasoning behind each ruling.
The methodology behind the codification of the rules of tajwid.
The scholars who codified tajwid and their contributions.
An introduction to the Ten Canonical Qira'at along with the Four Non-Canonical Qira'at of the Quran.
The history and preservation of the Qur'an.
The evolution of the science of tajwid, including an examination of scholarly differences in selected tajwid rulings across the canonical qira'at of the Qur'an.
Preparation for both the practical recitation examination and the written theory examination required for Ijazah certification.
Program objectives
To equip students with an advanced understanding of the science of tajwid, strengthen their precision and confidence in Qur'anic recitation, prepare qualified students to earn an Ijazah in the recitation of Imam Hafs via Ash-Shāṭibiyyah through successful completion of both the practical recitation and theory examinations, and provide the knowledge and qualifications needed to teach tajwid professionally.
